Red is the one color most men talk themselves out of and we think that’s a mistake worth correcting. A red turtleneck specifically sits in a very useful place. It’s bold enough to be the point of an outfit but structured enough in its shape that it never tips into costume territory. Wear it under a camel overcoat and the whole thing looks considered. Wear it with grey flannel trousers and a pair of dark leather boots and you’re done. No layering gymnastics required.

The turtleneck itself has to earn its keep though. Fabric weight matters. A thin one collapses. A stiff one sits wrong at the neck. What we’ve been looking for is the kind that holds its roll naturally, moves well, and doesn’t pill after three washes. Shade matters too because red covers a lot of ground from brick to cherry to something closer to burgundy.

These are the ones that actually justify making red your statement.
