Most activewear t-shirts are trying to tell you something. Bold logos, aggressive color blocking, chest prints announcing the brand like a press release. We are not interested in any of that. Most t-shirts look fine on day one and become something else entirely after six months of washing. The neck stretches out. The body loses whatever shape it had. What started as a clean, considered basic turns into something you wear to paint a room. We have been thinking about this problem for a while, because a t-shirt that actually holds its form is one of the hardest working pieces in a wardrobe and also one of the easiest things to get wrong. The difference comes down to fabric weight, yarn quality, and how the collar is constructed. A properly built cotton tee should sit well under a jacket, look intentional worn alone, and come out of the dryer looking more or less like it went in.
