The denim jacket is one of those pieces that should be simple and somehow keeps going wrong. Too boxy and it swamps the shoulder. Too long and it breaks the line of the leg. Too stiff and it sits away from the body like it belongs to someone else. Slim fit solves most of this but slim fit done badly creates its own problems, namely a jacket that pulls across the back and looks like it shrank in the wash. What we’ve been looking for is the version that sits close without restricting, that hits at the right point on the hip, and that works over a tee in summer as easily as it layers under a heavier coat when the temperature drops. Selvedge, rigid, washed, distressed, we’ve looked at the lot. The jackets in here have the shoulder seam in the right place and the chest room to actually move in. That sounds basic. It is harder to find than it should be.
