Down Gilets We'd Happily Recommend
The gilet divides opinion and we understand why. Worn badly it looks like you grabbed the wrong layer on the way out the door. Worn well it solves one of the more specific problems in a man's wardrobe, that in between temperature where a jacket is too much and a shirt is not nearly enough. A good down gilet adds real warmth through the core without restricting movement or adding bulk to the arms, which makes it surprisingly wearable over a midlayer or under a heavier coat. The ones worth owning are filled properly, not just quilted for appearances, and cut in a way that works over a hoodie as easily as over a merino crew neck. Collar height matters more than most men realize. So does the quality of the zip and the way the baffle stitching holds its shape after a season of actual use.
