The track jacket has had a long and complicated relationship with looking good. Done badly, it reads as afterthought dressing, the kind of thing that happens when comfort wins and everything else loses. Done well, it is one of the smarter casual pieces a man can own. The problem is that most of them land somewhere unsatisfying in between. Either the fabric is too synthetic and shows every wrinkle, or the fit is too boxy to wear with anything that requires thought, or the collar sits wrong and undermines whatever you had going on underneath.

What we were looking for here was zip track jackets that can go over a clean tee and still look considered. Pieces where the weight of the fabric does some work, the silhouette is structured without being stiff, and the color options extend past black and grey without becoming a statement. These are the ones that earn a permanent spot in the rotation rather than a slow slide to the back of the closet.
