The oversized puffer has a bad reputation in some circles and we understand why. A poorly proportioned one makes a broad man look like a marshmallow and a slim man look swamped. The problem is usually volume distributed in the wrong places, quilting that runs horizontal when it should run vertical, and a hem that hits at exactly the wrong point on the hip. Get those three things right and the silhouette actually works with your body rather than against it. We’ve been looking specifically at jackets where the shoulder sits cleanly, the body tapers just enough to suggest shape without going fitted, and the fill weight is high enough that you’re not compensating with layers underneath. Warmth matters as much as the way it looks. These are not fashion pieces pretending to be functional or functional pieces pretending to have style. They do both without making a big deal about it.
