Most puffer jackets age badly and they do it fast. After a season or two the shell starts to look plasticky, the fill shifts and clusters, and the whole thing reads as something you grabbed on the way out of a supermarket. The ones made from recycled materials have a reputation for being the worthy option rather than the good one. We’d push back on that. The best recycled puffers we’ve found are better constructed than most of their conventional counterparts, partly because the brands doing this work tend to care more about the whole thing. We’ve been looking specifically at jackets that hold their shape through real use, that don’t pill or shine under a coat, and that work with actual outfits rather than just athletic wear. The fill weight matters. The baffle construction matters. The color has to work hard too. These are the ones that get better the more you wear them.
