Few things in a man’s wardrobe work as hard for as little effort as a well made check flannel shirt. The problem is that most of them are either too thin to do anything useful in October, or cut so boxy they look like something borrowed from a much larger man. Getting the weight right and the fit right at the same time is rarer than it should be. We’ve been specifically looking at flannels that sit properly over a t-shirt, layer without bulk under a chore coat or overshirt, and hold their shape through a season of actual wear. The check matters too. Not every pattern earns its place and we’ve leaned toward the ones that add something without demanding attention. These are shirts that work on a Saturday without looking like you planned it, which is exactly the point. The right flannel shirt earns its place in regular rotation fast.
