The henley sits in an interesting spot in a man’s wardrobe. More considered than a plain tee, less committed than a button-down, it fills the gap between doing nothing and getting dressed without making a big deal of it. The problem is that a bad henley looks like an afterthought. Wrong fabric, too boxy, buttons that sit awkwardly, and the whole thing reads like gym wear that got lost. We’ve been looking specifically for henleys that have some structure without being stiff, fabric weight that holds its shape through a full day, and a placket that looks intentional rather than decorative. The fit around the shoulder is where most of them fail. These ones don’t. They work with chinos, with jeans, worn alone or under an open overshirt when the temperature can’t make up its mind. Casual dressing done well is harder than it looks, and the right henley is one of the pieces that makes it look easy.
