Most racerback tanks get it wrong in exactly the same way. The armholes are cut too wide, the fabric is too thin to do anything useful, and the whole thing ends up looking like an afterthought rather than a considered piece of gym or training kit. We’ve spent time with a lot of options and the difference between a good one and a bad one is more obvious than it should be. Fabric weight matters. So does how the back panel sits across the shoulders when you’re actually moving. A racerback that shifts around during a workout is useless, and one that looks cheap under a zip up on the way to the gym isn’t doing its job either. The ones we’ve pulled together here hold their shape, move well, and have enough presence that they work beyond the weight room. Not every tank needs to be a statement. But none of them should be an embarrassment either.
